Artist Lan-Chiann Wu creates modern Chinese ink paintings using traditional techniques. The painter seeks to capture in her art the simple and beautiful moments of life. “I am fascinated by the relationship between our daily hustle and bustle, the calmness and the purity of nature, and the environment that we build for ourselves”, says Lan-Chiann.
Before she begins a painting, Lan-Chiann researches her subject matter extensively. While she gets her creative ideas from everyday scenes, poetry and ancient histories also inspire her work. Several sketches precede the actual creation of a painting, a process that may take up to several months to complete. She paints with natural pigments on high quality paper. Lan-Chiann Wu has experimented with different media and has
explored a variety of painting techniques, but she feels most strongly connected to traditional Chinese ink painting. “ Preparing my own ink is relaxing. I love the control of finely ground ink flowing from my brush onto the paper, nothing beats the feeling of putting down a good, decisive stroke.”
Lan-Chiann creates paintings from her own inspiration and also produces works on commission. For further information please contact the artist at info@thetranquilstudio.com.
